NFL Tuesday Takeaways & Picks update
Matt Stafford looks like a perfect fit in the McVay offense. He played great against defending SB Champion TB at home. Outplaying Tom Brady and leading your team to an undefeated record in September is a great start to an MVP-type season.
Aaron Rodgers made some insanely difficult throws that only he and a handful of other QBs can make as he led the Packers to a late comeback victory in SF, although the bigger question is why did Shanahan give him the ball back with so much time left?
What Matt Nagy did to Justin Fields was borderline criminal. It was negligent play calling to make him go out there and drop back to pass, knowing they couldn’t protect against the Browns and Myles Garrett. Maybe adjust the offense to Fields strengths, considering it was his first start and you’d like him to not be injured by his second start.
Justin Tucker cements himself as the greatest kicker of all time with an NFL record 66-yard FG to defeat the Lions. Tucker is so damn clutch, he might be as good a kicker as Brady is a QB.
Washington’s defense has some serious problems to deal with as they went from one of the most feared defenses in the league to a team regularly giving up 30 points. Buffalo put up 40 and made it look easy.
Joe Burrow and the Bengals look like an early season surprise to me as they went into Pittsburgh and handled the Steelers. Ja’marr Chase is looking like the front-runner for Offensive Rookie of the Year and bonafide #1 WR Burrow dominated in college with at LSU during the 2019 National Title run.
The Vikings finally defeated Russell Wilson (0-5) after Sunday’s win. Despite not having Dalvin Cook, Kirk Cousins and Alexander Mattison they took care of the Seahawks with ease. Russell Wilson cannot do enough to save the Seahawks, who have major questions on the defensive side of the ball.
Derek Carr is a cinematic QB. It seems like he just waits for the most important plays and crucial downs to play his best. Perhaps he’s just surveying the defense, waiting for his moment to strike. 2 OT wins, leading the league in passing, it’s impressive, we will see if it lasts.
The Cowboys leading the league in turnovers forced (8) was something that surprised me completely. I had to double-check that stat, because they were so awful last year. It looks like the draft picks of Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs are finally starting to pay off.
