NFL Tuesday Takeaways & Picks update
The Bengals have arrived and are a legit contender in the AFC. This happened much faster than anyone anticipated. They’ve beaten the Steelers and the Ravens on the road. Ja’Marr Chase has pretty much locked up the rookie of the year award. The Burrow-Chase connection is special and will be awesome to watch on Sundays to come for the next decade.
While the Bengals have arrived, there are major questions the Chiefs to answer after losing to the Titans and dropping to 3-4. The Chiefs were dominated in a 27-3 ass whooping in Nashville. They didn’t score a TD for the first time in Andy Reid’s tenure in KC and the first time in Mahomes career. It seems like defenses have figured out how to defend them and they will have to adjust. They should be able to make the adjustments needed, especially with getting to face the Giants on MNF in week 8.
On the other end of that game was the Titans, who have beaten both AFC championship game teams (Bills and Chiefs) less than a week apart. You have to give a lot of credit to Mike Vrabel for putting together a game plan that confused Mahomes and the Chiefs and limited them to only a FG. They look like they’re improving at the right time and everything seems to be clicking for them. If the defense can even perform at an average level to pair with that elite offense, the Titans will be a playoff team.
The Colts also seem to be clicking after surviving a wet, sloppy bomb cyclone of a game in San Francisco Sunday night. Carson Wentz is looking more comfortable in that offense, his relationship with Frank Reich helping him regain the form that helped him succeed in Philadelphia earlier in his career. The Week 8 game with the Titans is a must-win game for Indy if they want any chance at the playoffs or the AFC South title.
Tampa Bay continuing to steamroll opponents as Tom Brady continues to just pile up career passing TDs, tallying his 600th this past weekend. They dominated the Bears, 38-3 and the game wasn’t even that close. Brady firmly in the MVP conversation and Tampa looking like the team to beat, despite the Cardinals being the lone undefeated team in the NFL and the top seed in the NFC.
